Signature South India
South Indian culture can be distinctly defined by its Dravidian architecture and temples that has emerged over thousands of years. The typical Dravidian temple consists of pyramid shaped temple with intricate carved stones to create a step design of statues of deities, warriors, kings, and dancers. The most famous of these Dravidian temples include the Vijayanagara and Mahabalipuram temple complexes. The Mahabalipuram temple being incredibly fascinating as it was constructed from single rocks. The temples were built by the Pallavas who were the pioneers of south Indian architecture. The earliest examples of temples in the Dravidian style belong to the Pallava with most of the temples originating as early as 610 - 690 CE.
