Rajasthan, known as the land of contrast has proven to be just that for visitors following this journey. Starting in Delhi this itinerary then takes you to the rolling hills and forts of the Mandawa region. Following this you head west to Jaislemer "the gateway to the desert" where you stand in true nomadic style at the foot of Rajasthans vast desert on camel back. Before proceeding onto Royal Udaipur, experience the princely city of Jodhpur, famous for the sea of blue painted buildings. The blue painted houses were initially for Brahmins, though soon non-Brahmins joined in, as it was said that the colour deflected the heat and kept mosquitoes away.
Move onto Udaipur, also known "the Venice of the east", something quite apparent as you enjoy a boat ride around the Lake Pitchola. Udaipur was the capital of the Rajput of Mewar and is one of the few regions untouched by the moghuls due to its surrounding mountainous terrain making the city a walking architectural museum.
This trip moves onto ambient Pushkar, famous for its walking Sadhus and temples. A visit to Pushkar is especially unique in the month of November with its annual Camel fair festival. As you proceed onto Delhi you stop at Jaipurs pink city visiting the incredible Amber fort and enjoying an elephant ride to the top of the fort area, and at night embark upon the night bazaars. The journey then heads back to Delhi with a visit to Bharatpur nature reserve with over 4000 species of birds, and then onto a visit to the exquisite Taj Mahal. This wonderful itinerary is recommended for those wishing to experience different activities and really see in depth the richness of one of India's most illustrious states.
