Darjeeling and Sikkim stand tucked away in the Himalayan foothills, but proudly presents its identity with its monastries, people, dress, lifestyle and Geography.
One of the many highlights to Darjeeling include a visit to its Darjeelings tea picking community on the rolling hills along with a ride on the toy train developed by the British in 1926. The famous toy train, also known as the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is now a UNESCO world heritage site, which meanders through busy hamlets and mountainous regions on a 2 metre gauge making it must do experience for any visitor to this region.

In Sikkim, there are several incredible visits to its Buddhist monastries, one of the most important of them being the Lachen monastery located at the top of the Lachen village, which commands excellent panoramic views of the surrounding hills and country side. The importance of this monastry is defined whilst you take a short trek to the hill caves where the world famous explorer Alexandra David Neel meditated in 1912 to find peace following his adventures.
On return from the foothills, this itinerary concludes with a visit to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort upon, along with exploring the sights of New Delhi including the Mahatma Gandhi memorial gardens.
This journey is ideal for this wishing to enjoy the outdoors of the Himalayas whilst combining culture and classics of India, touching on many wonderful sights and monuments at every destination.
